Job summary

BRC Jobs is seeking a Specialist Domestic Abuse Practitioner in Barry on a hybrid basis. The role supports adults and families affected by domestic abuse, delivering trauma-informed, person-centred assistance to help them achieve safety, stability and independence.

You will assess risk, develop safety plans, advocate for access to services and collaborate with partner agencies to ensure timely, appropriate support. Female applicants only as required by policy.

Qualifications

  • Experience supporting people affected by domestic abuse, safeguarding or other complex needs.
  • Strong understanding of domestic abuse, coercive control, trauma and its impact.
  • Experience undertaking risk assessments and developing effective safety plans.
  • IDVA qualification or other accredited VAWDASV qualification is desirable.
  • Excellent communication, advocacy and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to build trusting relationships while maintaining professional boundaries.
  • Experience working collaboratively with multiple agencies.

Specialist Domestic Abuse Practitioner

Location: Barry & Hybrid

Salary: £24,535 - £27,891 (Dependent on qualifications and experience)

Hours: 35 hours per week (Mon-Fri)

We are recruiting for an experienced Specialist Domestic Abuse Practitioner to join a dedicated service supporting adults and families affected by domestic abuse.

This is an opportunity to make a genuine difference, providing specialist, trauma-informed support to individuals experiencing domestic abuse and helping them move towards safety, stability and independence.

The Role

As a Specialist Domestic Abuse Practitioner, you will provide high-quality, person-centred support to victims and survivors of domestic abuse. You will work collaboratively with individuals and partner agencies to assess risk, develop safety plans and ensure people receive the right support at the right time.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide specialist, trauma-informed support to victims and survivors of domestic abuse.
  • Undertake comprehensive risk and needs assessments, including the identification and management of high-risk cases.
  • Develop and regularly review individualised safety and support plans.
  • Provide advocacy and practical support to help individuals access appropriate services.
  • Work closely with statutory and voluntary-sector partners, including safeguarding, housing, health and social care services.
  • Maintain accurate, confidential and timely case records.
  • Contribute to multi-agency meetings and risk-management processes.
  • Support clients to build confidence, resilience and independence.
  • Promote safeguarding and ensure all work is undertaken in line with relevant policies, legislation and best practice.
About You

We are looking for someone who has:

  • Experience supporting people affected by domestic abuse, safeguarding or other complex needs.
  • A strong understanding of domestic abuse, coercive control, trauma and its impact on individuals and families.
  • Experience undertaking risk assessments and developing effective safety plans.
  • IDVA qualification or other relevant accredited VAWDASV qualification is desirable.
