Job summary

Full time, 10 PA's per week. Permanent post.

We are seeking a specialist to support the Eye Unit through clinics, surgery, and on-call duties. The role involves providing support to Consultant and Associate Specialist colleagues, as well as working independently and autonomously.

Main duties of the job

Outpatients

• Conduct independent outpatient clinics under consultant supervision, with potential for autonomous clinics in the future based on skills and experience. Sub-specialty clinics include acute referral, Glaucoma, and Uveitis; additional clinics may include Diabetes, MR, Symptom, and Neuro clinics.
• Undertake sessions in their specialist interest area.
• Provide clinical supervision of junior medical staff alongside senior colleagues.
• May deputise for absent colleagues and perform additional duties during emergencies to ensure department safety.

Elective

• Support Trainees in surgical lists.
• Hold overall accountability for patients operated on, under consultant oversight.
• Participate in pre- and post-operative patient management.
• Contribute to national data collection for surgical procedures.

On-Call Rota

Support the first on-call rota, ensuring fair and consistent duty distribution.

Person Specification

Qualifications and Registration (Essential):

• Full GMC registration with license to practice
• MB, ChB or equivalent

Experience (Essential):

• Significant medical work since primary qualification
• Relevant ophthalmology experience
• Recent NHS work within last 3 years
• Minimum 4 years in ST3+ or Specialty Doctor grade
• Participation in audit
