University Hospitals of Liverpool Group (ULHG) is inviting applications for a Consultant in Diabetes and Endocrinology at Aintree University Hospital. This role supports our strategic aim to enhance consultant and multidisciplinary capacity across diabetes and endocrinology services.
Join a dynamic, innovative department in a leading acute teaching hospital, contributing to both inpatient and outpatient care. Opportunities exist to develop services in areas such as diabetic foot, antenatal diabetes, insulin pumps, and transition care.
The post is based at Aintree University Hospital, with collaborative work across primary care, community teams, and academic partners.
Applicants must have full GMC registration, MRCP(UK) (or equivalent), and be on the Specialist Register (or within 6 months of CCT).

The appointee will collaborate with colleagues to provide general medical care, as well as diabetes, endocrinology, and weight management services. Clinical sessions will include a diabetes clinic, endocrine clinic, weight management or bariatric clinic, and a specialist clinic, tailored to the appointee's interests and service needs.
Clinical Care:
Provide inpatient and outpatient care for diabetes and endocrine patients, including complex cases.
Lead ward rounds and manage emergencies, participating in the on-call rota.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver holistic care.
Specialist Clinics:
Provide specialist care in areas like diabetic foot, antenatal diabetes, and insulin pump therapy.
Supervise clinics focused on specific patient groups.
Teaching and Training:
Teach medical students and healthcare professionals.
Supervise trainees and participate in educational activities like journal clubs and case discussions.
Audit, Research, and Clinical Governance:
Lead clinical audits and engage in research to improve patient care.
Contribute to clinical governance activities to monitor outcomes.
Leadership and Service Development:
Contribute to the development and improvement of services.
Participate in service planning and transformation initiatives.
Work closely with primary care, community teams, and academic partners.
Participate in multidisciplinary meetings to ensure optimal care.

This is a full-time, Consultant post in Diabetes and Endocrinology at Aintree University Hospital, part of University Hospitals Liverpool Group (UHLG). The post holder will join a proactive and collaborative team of consultants committed to delivering high-quality, patient-centred care and supporting continuous improvement across diabetes and endocrinology services.
Clinical Responsibilities
Provide comprehensive inpatient and outpatient care in diabetes and endocrinology, including participation in specialist clinics such as diabetic foot, antenatal diabetes, and insulin pump therapy.
Participate in the ward cover rota, leading three ward rounds and two board rounds weekly.
Engage in the general medical on-call rota and specialty rota to provide emergency cover and support clinical care across the hospital.
Contribute to multidisciplinary meetings and work closely with primary care and community teams to deliver integrated care models.
Teaching, Supervision, and Education
Supervise and teach undergraduate medical students, junior medical staff, and other healthcare professionals, fostering a learning environment.
Lead teaching sessions and contribute to departmental educational programmes, including journal clubs, case-based discussions, and clinical governance activities.
Level 2 training will be provided to the appointee to become an Educational/Clinical Supervisor if they have not already completed this training.
Quality Improvement, Governance, and Research
Participate in departmental audit and clinical governance activities, contributing to the continuous improvement of service quality.
Engage in research and clinical audit, supporting the development of new initiatives and contributing to projects that improve patient care.
Contribute to service improvement projects to enhance safety, efficiency, and innovation within the department.
Service Development and Leadership
Actively contribute to the development and improvement of services, aligning with both local and national priorities to enhance patient outcomes.
Participate in leadership discussions and support the development of strategic goals for the department and Trust.
Applicants with experience in leadership or strategic development will be encouraged to take on additional responsibilities in line with their expertise and interests.
Job Plan and Professional Support
The post is offered as a 10 PA job plan, consisting of 8.5 Direct Clinical Care (DCC) and 1.5 Supporting Professional Activities (SPA), with additional SPA time available for specific roles, subject to discussion.
An office with IT facilities and administrative support will be provided. Shared PA support and overflow typing from the secretarial team are also available.
Participation in annual appraisal and revalidation is expected. The department offers support for continued professional development in line with Royal College and GMC expectations.
This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
