Job summary

Aspire People is recruiting an SEN Teaching Assistant to support children and young people with a range of Special Educational Needs. The role involves one-to-one and small group support, assisting with academic, social and emotional development, and helping implement education and behaviour plans.

The position requires a minimum of 6 months' SEN experience, a full UK driving licence with access to a vehicle, strong communication skills, and an enhanced DBS or willingness to obtain one.

Qualifications

Job description

Aspire are currently recruiting for a compassionate, dedicated, and enthusiastic SEN Teaching Assistant to support children and young people with a range of Special Educational Needs (SEN). The Role

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and other professionals to provide tailored support to pupils with a variety of additional needs, including:

  • Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
  • ADHD
  • Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN)
  • Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs
  • Moderate and Severe Learning Difficulties (MLD/SLD)
  • Physical and sensory disabilities
Responsibilities
  • Providing one-to‑one and small group support.
  • Assisting pupils with their academic, social and emotional development.
  • Implementing individual education and behaviour support plans.
  • Supporting pupils with personal care where required.
  • Promoting independence, confidence and positive behaviour.
  • Building strong relationships with pupils, staff and parents/carers.
  • Recording pupil progress and providing feedback to teaching staff.

Essential Requirements
  • A minimum of 6 months' experience working in an SEN setting or supporting children with additional needs.
  • A full UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle (essential due to travel requirements).
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A patient, caring and resilient nature.
  • The ability to remain calm under pressure and adapt to individual pupil needs.
  • The right to work in the UK.
  • An enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one.
Desirable
  • Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent).
  • Experience with PECS, Makaton, Team Teach, or other SEN‑related training.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding procedures.
  • Experience supporting pupils with challenging behaviour.
