Job summary

Co-op Academy Delius is seeking a dedicated Specialist Teaching Assistant to join our Enhanced Pathway Provision for 2-11 year olds with complex educational and medical needs. You will tailor bespoke learning and work with external agencies to support each pupil’s development.

You will complement teachers and contribute to inclusive education, leveraging IT and outdoor learning while maintaining high standards and positive relationships with pupils, staff, and families.

Qualifications

  • Experience in Special Educational Needs (SEN) settings.
  • Excellent practitioner with understanding of SEND in classroom.
  • Commitment to inclusive education and high standards.

Responsibilities

  • Support the teacher in delivering effective teaching, learning, assessment and recording.
  • Assist with care, interventions and therapies including personal care and mental health support.
  • Differentiate and plan a challenging curriculum aligned to statutory requirements.
  • Follow school policies under supervision and guidance.

Are you a dedicated and experienced educator passionate about making a difference in the lives of Children with Special Educational Needs (SEN)? Co-op Academy Delius is a high achieving, friendly academy for pupils from 2-11 years with a range of complex educational and medical needs, we have an exciting opportunity for you to join our team, where you'll play a pivotal role in our SEN educational provision.

As a Specialist Teaching Assistant within our Enhanced Pathway Provision at Co-op Academy Delius, you will deliver bespoke, specialist education tailored to meet the evolving needs of SEN pupils, including those with complex requirements. You will develop and implement personalised learning to support each pupil’s unique needs and abilities. Use innovative teaching methods and resources to engage and inspire young learners. Collaborate with external agencies and our wider inclusion team to ensure holistic support for pupil’s development. Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment that promotes confidence and growth.

The highly skilled and dedicated staff at Co-op Academy Delius are passionate about supporting our pupils, and each other and we recognise the importance of working in partnership with parents and other professionals as well as enhancing our links in our local community and beyond. In your role as Special Needs Teaching Assistant you'll:
  1. Complement and proactively support the teacher in delivering effective teaching, learning, assessment and recording;
  2. Complement and proactively support the delivery of care, support programmes, interventions and therapies (including feeding, personal hygiene, mental health, physical health and behavioural);
  3. Support the class teacher in the planning and delivery of an appropriately differentiated and suitably challenging creative curriculum for all pupils whilst meeting statutory requirements;
  4. Work within school policies, procedures and code of conduct under the direction and guidance of senior staff and within an agreed system of supervision (and delegation).
Following a recent successful recruitment campaign we are looking to recruit more Special Needs Teaching Assistants to join us who:
  1. Are an excellent practitioner. A specialism or additional training in Special Educational Needs (SEN) is highly desirable.
  2. Are confident in the classroom and understand how children with SEND, learn.
  3. Have high expectations of what can be achieved.
  4. Seek to build positive relationships with children.
  5. Are flexible with a good sense of humour and an understanding of the ‘bigger picture’.
  6. Are able to work to their own initiative as well as part of a team.
  7. Are confident and excited about using and embracing IT and outdoor learning in their practice.
  8. Are flexible, hardworking and have a passion to make a difference in the lives of our young learners.
  9. A genuine passion for inclusive education and a commitment to making a difference.

This role is customer facing and therefore in line with the Immigration Act 2016; all applicants must be able to demonstrate fluency of the English Language to the level defined in the Job Description. Candidates invited to our recruitment day will be expected to complete several tasks; be observed in the classroom and be interviewed, in order to recruit staff of the highest professional quality.

All applicants must be willing and able to work at either of our Delius sites, BD3 and BD7 (as required and directed by the Academy) and will have an initial induction period.
