Job summary

The Latimer Arts College in Kettering is seeking a patient, resilient individual to support SEND students in a dedicated study space. You will help manage learning and behaviour, enabling students to catch up with core subjects using online and written resources.

Essential qualifications include literacy and numeracy at Level 2 or above, safeguarding knowledge, and a commitment to supporting every student’s value and progress. Teamwork and reliability are crucial.

Qualifications

  • Literacy and numeracy at level 2 or above are required.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding within schools, including Child Protection.
  • Motivation to work with children and young people and to support learning.
  • Commitment to equality and maintaining professional boundaries with students.
  • Experience in administration and good ICT skills (Word/Excel).
  • Data protection, security and confidentiality awareness; team player.

Responsibilities

  • Support learning and manage behaviour of SEND students in the study space.
  • Work as part of a team to reflect high expectations in student conduct.
  • Assist with resources, both online and written, to help students catch up.

Job description

We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic andcommitted to supporting those students who have additional needs. Experience is desirable but not essential, weare looking for someone who is patient and able to relate to students in a calm, supportive andpositive manner. Every day is different, so we need someone who isresilient and works well as part of a team.

The base is a study space for SEND students whoare not attending a full curriculum, this may be just for a couple of lessons aweek or more frequent depending upon need and circumstance. This space allows studentstime to catch up with core subjects and other work, using both online andwritten resources, and build their confidence. The successful candidate will support the learning and manage thebehaviour of the students within the room, ensuring high expectations are inplace that mirror the rest of the school.

Essential
  • Appropriatelevel of Literacy & Numeracy skills, equivalent to level 2 or above
  • Knowledgeand experience of the requirements of safeguarding within schools,including Child Protection
  • Motivationto work with children and young people
  • Commitmentto, and belief in, the equal value of all students
  • Abilityto form and maintain appropriate relationships and personal boundarieswith children and young people
  • Provenwork experience in administration
  • Strongbasic ICT skills, especially in the use of Word and Excel
  • Appropriatelevel of data protection, security and confidentiality awareness
  • Ableto work as part of a team
  • Bereliable and consistent
  • Efficientand organised: independent and effective in time management
  • Willingto be flexible and adaptable
Desirable
  • Appropriatequalifications (LSA HLTA) or experience of supporting students in school
  • Knowledgeof database management
  • Priorrelevant experience of working in a school
  • Knowledgeand understanding of the SEN Code of Practice
  • Experienceof using Compass (School’s Information Management System)
  • Knowledgeof external children and young people support services
  • Firstaid training
