Job summary

BaxterStorey is seeking a skilled Sous Chef in Bolton to join our contract catering team. You will craft flavourful dishes, ensuring top quality and presentation while supporting the Head Chef in daily operations.

We offer 35 hours per week across 5 days, a supportive development environment and benefits that include meals on shift and pension. This is a dynamic kitchen for culinary growth.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in a similar role within contract catering or education sector preferred.
• Relevant certifications from a recognized culinary institute.
• Strong knowledge of food safety standards and best practices.
• Ability to multitask and work efficiently under pressure in a high‑volume kitchen.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Flexible to work evenings, weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Head Chef in all aspects of food preparation, production and service.
• Ensure quality and presentation of dishes meet company standards and client expectations.
• Supervise and train kitchen staff while ensuring food safety and sanitation.
• Assist in menu planning and development considering dietary restrictions and seasonal ingredients.
• Oversee stock control and ordering to maintain inventory and minimize waste.
• Collaborate with catering team to deliver events and themed dinners.
• Maintain a clean, organized kitchen following health and safety regulations.
• Support Head Chef with scheduling, budgeting and cost records.
• Stay updated on industry trends and new ingredients to enhance menus.
• Foster a positive working environment with leadership and teamwork.
