Job summary

Sous Chef position at a welcoming country pub near Kendal requires an experienced and enthusiastic cook to work with a professional kitchen team. You will support the Head Chef in daily operations and help maintain high standards of food quality and service.

The role involves preparing and presenting dishes, supervising junior staff, and contributing to menu planning while ensuring food safety and hygiene. Own transport is expected; no live-in accommodation is available.

Qualifications

• Has previous experience as a Sous Chef, Senior Chef or strong Chef de Partie.
• Confident working in a busy pub, restaurant or country-house kitchen.
• Genuine passion for good-quality food.
• Can work well under pressure during busy services.
• Organised, reliable and able to lead by example.
• Excellent attention to detail and high standards of cleanliness.
• Works well as part of a team but can also take responsibility when required.
• Flexible approach to working hours and the demands of a busy hospitality operation.

Responsibilities

• Assisting the Head Chef with day-to-day running of the kitchen.
• Preparing, cooking and presenting dishes to a consistently high standard.
• Taking responsibility for the kitchen in the Head Chef's absence.
• Supporting and supervising junior chefs and kitchen staff.
• Helping with menu preparation, specials and seasonal dishes.
• Ensuring food preparation and service run efficiently during busy periods.
• Maintaining excellent standards of food hygiene, cleanliness and kitchen safety.
• Managing stock rotation, storage and portion control.
• Monitoring food quality and minimising food waste.
• Assisting with ordering and stock checks when required.
• Following all food safety, allergen and health & safety procedures.
• Helping to maintain a positive, organised and professional kitchen environment.
• Working as part of the wider pub team to deliver excellent customer service.

£20ph self employed Invoice ( a payroll rate can be arranged)

We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Sous Chef to join the kitchen team at a welcoming country pub near Kendal.

The Role
