About The Bear

The Bear is a boutique nine-bedroom hotel dating back to the 17th century, originally serving as a traditional coaching inn on the London to Portsmouth route.

We foster a community atmosphere, serving as a meeting place for any occasion right in the heart of Esher high street. Open morning, noon, and night, the pub is lively at all hours.

What we look for in a Sous Chef

We are seeking an experienced Sous Chef or Senior CDP ready for the next step, who considers themselves a natural leader with a passion and flair for producing quality fresh food in a welcoming environment. As a successful Sous Chef, you will:

  • Champion excellent service through quality food
  • Demonstrate leadership and team development skills
  • Be an active, hands-on Chef with excellent communication skills
  • Manage the kitchen staff rota, training, and health and safety procedures effectively
  • Collaborate with your Head Chef to design and deliver new dishes and specials
  • Show strong planning and organizational skills to maintain control over GP and labour costs
  • Drive sales and growth through engagement with kitchen and front-of-house teams
