Isembard is building a network of high-performance factories and relies on MasonOS to coordinate orders and suppliers across multiple sites. This backend role focuses on robust routing decisions, supplier orchestration, and scalable architecture to support an expanding shop floor network.
You will work closely with factory and robotics teams, ensuring fault-tolerant operations in high-security environments while contributing to the growth of our distributed systems across sites.
Isembard is building a network of high-performance factories for critical industries. We combine advanced machine tools, robotics and our own software, MasonOS, to make precision components for aerospace, defence, energy and frontier technology companies, with factories across the UK, US, Germany and France. Our mission is to forge industrial acceleration.
MasonOS coordinates our factory network across four countries. This role builds the part of it that makes decisions: which site takes an order, which supplier fills a gap, how the schedule changes when a machine goes down.
It is backend engineering with physical consequences. When the routing is wrong, metal sits still.
Build order routing across the sites in our network.
Build supplier orchestration and the data behind it.
Design backend architecture for more sites than we run today, not just the ones we have.
Deploy MasonOS into new sites as the network grows, and adapt your abstractions when they meet a real shop floor.
Set and defend the reliability standards for a system that production depends on.
Work closely with our factory and robotics teams.
Strong backend engineering fundamentals.
Real experience with distributed systems.
Good judgement about failure: what is allowed to degrade, and what must never break.
Comfort working in high-security environments.
Typically three or more years of professional experience, though we will consider exceptional early-career engineers who can add value quickly.
A willingness to learn how a factory runs from the people who run it. You do not need a manufacturing background, but you should want one.
Work on systems that control physical production, with results you can see on the shop floor.
High ownership and real influence over the architecture.
Competitive salary and equity.
Location: On-site at our Southwark factory in London, with travel to new sites when deploying MasonOS.
