Job description

Software Development Engineer - FinTech, Fintech - Tax

Amazon's Financial Technology team is seeking passionate, results-oriented software developers to work on massively scalable and distributed systems. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, understands large data sets and transactions, and is eager to deliver innovative software leveraging Amazon Web Services. Our platform supports Amazon's finance, tax, and accounting functions globally.

As a team member, your mission will be to design, develop, document, and support scalable, distributed real-time systems. Using C++, Python, Java, object-oriented design patterns, distributed databases, and other storage techniques, you'll build software systems to meet complex and evolving business needs.

We welcome a range of experience levels, from recent graduates to seasoned technical leaders. If you are ambitious, innovative, and meet the qualifications below, we would love to connect with you!

Key job responsibilities
  1. Design and develop solutions to optimize the experience for Tax customers.
  2. Contribute to defining, designing, and developing a new platform from start to finish.
  3. Engage in all project phases: requirements review, service design, interface development, integration, testing, and deployment.
  4. Collaborate with engineering teams on daily activities, design reviews, and code reviews.
  5. Evaluate and utilize AWS technologies such as EC2, RDS, DynamoDB, RedShift, SWF, S3, and QuickSight to build backend services and APIs.
  6. Design and implement technical solutions using tools like AngularJS, React, Node.js, JQuery, and SQL Server.
  7. Develop tools hosted on AWS infrastructure and build dashboards and visualization services.
  8. Work iteratively using agile methodologies.
A day in the life

This role involves working closely with Tax teams to understand their business challenges, adapt quickly, and prioritize customer needs. You should be capable of building quick solutions, creating proof-of-concepts, and recommending suitable solutions. Collaboration with peers on designing solutions, deep dives, and code reviews is essential. You will also be responsible for owning and resolving operational tickets.

About the team

Our team develops software solutions for tax compliance and auditing, focusing on geo-expansions, mergers, and acquisitions. We work with global stakeholders and are currently building a data lineage-based reporting system that enables tax teams to generate reports based on transactional data linkages across financial systems.

Basic qualifications
  • 3+ years of professional software development experience (non-internship)
  • 2+ years of experience in system design or architecture, including design patterns, reliability, and scalability
  • 3+ years supporting title development, release, or live operations in the Video Games Industry
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language
Preferred qualifications
  • 3+ years of full software development lifecycle experience, including coding standards, code reviews, source control, build processes, testing, and operations
