Job summary

Yorkshire Building Society (YBS) is seeking an API & Microservices - Software Development Engineer to join our Enterprise Engineering Team. The role is hybrid, home-based with time in Bradford, delivering Java Spring Boot microservices and APIs that underpin our digital platforms.

You’ll design, develop, and test automation, participate in code reviews, and work with architects, analysts, Scrum Masters, and product owners to estimate requirements and ensure scalable architecture.

Qualifications

• Must have hands-on Java and Spring experience.
• Desirable: RESTful design, API gateway products.
• Experience with containers and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift).
• Experience with CI pipelines (Git, Jenkins, Azure AKS).
• Security knowledge (OWASP, JWT, certificates).
• Familiar with agile delivery tools (JIRA, Confluence, GitLab, Jenkins).
• Experience building customer-facing APIs and services.

Responsibilities

We are looking for an API & Microservices - Software Development Engineer to join one of our squads in our Enterprise Engineering Team. The role will provide an excellent opportunity to learn new technologies and help shape the digital future at YBS.

This is a hybrid role - working from home plus some time in our Bradford office.

About the role

As Software Development Engineer, you’ll design, develop, document, and create test automation of software and configuration that delivers value to YBS customers. This will include -

• Delivering API’s and Java Spring Boot Microservices that underpin our Digital platforms
• Implementing automated build pipelines and monitoring capabilities
• Participate and lead peer reviews of documentation, code, unit and integration testing
• Collaborate with Principle Leads, Architects, Analysts, Scrum Master, and Product Owners to perform impact analysis and estimation on requirements and designs
• Ensure that system design meets the current design standards, is appropriate for current architecture and meets future architecture and infrastructure requirements
• Provide out of hours support for services and API’s

About you

You’ll have hands-on experience of Java and Spring. In addition, you’ll be able to demonstrate -

• Strong knowledge of modern technologies and platforms used within digital applications
• Desirable skills include:
  • Restful Design, working with API Gateway products (Google Apigee, Azure APIM)
  • Containers and Container Orchestration - Docker, Kubernetes & OpenShift
  • Continuous Integration Pipelines Git, Jenkins, Azure AKS
  • Security (OWASP, Certificates, JWT, Encryption techniques)
  • Knowledge, understanding and experience of software delivery methodologies and the application of them using tools like JIRA, Confluence, Gitlab and Jenkins
  • Experience with developing solutions that enable communications direct with customers
