Job summary

OSI Electronics, UK is seeking an SMT Operator to set up and operate automatic machines, including robotic assembly, for the production of PCB assemblies. You will feed materials, adjust settings, perform minor repairs and pull finished products from the line while checking against tolerances.

You will read process sheets, inspect outputs with AOI, maintain high quality, document work in MES, and support continuous improvement while upholding the company values.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in Surface Mount Assembly processes within last 10 years.
• Familiar with lean concepts and waste reduction.
• IPC-610 qualifications desirable.

Responsibilities

• Operate computer-controlled surface mount assembly machinery to assemble PCBAs.
• Inspect PCBAs using AOI inline to ensure quality.
• Read and follow process sheets and machine instructions; adjust settings as needed.
• Maintain high accuracy and quality standards; document work in MES.
• Identify SMT components and ensure correct placement and polarity.
• Maintain housekeeping and report quality issues for corrective action.

Role Overview

We are seeking an SMT Operator who will set up and operate a variety of automatic or semi-automatic machines including robotic assembly equipment used in the production of the company’s product. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the overall operation and care of potentially large-scale manufacturing machinery including actions such as feeding materials for processing, adjusting settings, performing minor repairs, and pulling finished product from the line. The SMT operator works from process sheets or written/verbal instructions given by supervisor to perform production tasks. Checks and inspects operation results against predetermined tolerances.

Responsibilities

• Operate computer-controlled surface mount assembly machinery to successfully assemble surface mount technology printed circuit assemblies.
• Operate AOI machinery to successfully inspect PCBAs in line.
• Operate at a high degree of accuracy & quality standards measured by the downstream inspection & test operations.
• Ability to read machine error messages and correct placement & printing problems on a modern pick & placement line whilst adhering to product process times.
• Confident to hand place SMT parts accurately onto circuit assemblies, ensuring correct polarity of devices.
• Be able to kit and de-kit SMT placements machines and set up printing programs on automatic stencil printers.
• Able to set up and operate the surface mount equipment, maintaining high quality standards on all activities undertaken.
• Take a high degree of care of the components handled minimising loss of parts during handling.
• Document all work completed on the SMT process via shopfloor MES system.
• Identify SMT component types and their different package styles.
• Ensure information entered into the manufacturing system is accurate at all times.
• Escalate any work-related problems to the relevant supervisor/production manager/process engineer.
• To ensure that work carried out is in accordance with the appropriate Works Instructions within the OSI quality manual and that any deviations from this are communicated to the supervisor.
• Ability to read and interpret SMT diagrams.
• Maintain high housekeeping within relevant work area.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in Surface Mount Assembly processes within last 10 years.
• Proven experience using Europlacer platform is desirable.
• Proven IPC-610 qualifications are desirable.
• Familiar with lean concepts and waste reduction.

Other Work Requirements

• Successful completion of OSI Electronics and OSI Corporate training (including training done at Company location).
• Must become fully competent understanding how OSI Electronics service supports their customers.
• Flexibility in working hours if required.
