Job summary

Westfield Academy is seeking a Sixth Form Learning Mentor to provide mentoring and pastoral support to 16–19-year-old students and to coordinate the Study Centre and enrichment activities. The role includes monitoring progress, promoting independent study and helping students plan for university, apprenticeships or employment.

The post requires strong interpersonal skills, safeguarding awareness and the ability to work with staff, students and external partners.

Qualifications

• GCSE Maths and English (or equivalent) required.
• Experience mentoring young people aged 16-19 is desirable.
• Strong IT and digital skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide regular mentoring and pastoral support to identified Sixth Form students.
• Develop positive, professional relationships with students and act as a consistent source of guidance and encouragement.
• Monitor students' academic progress, attendance, punctuality, behaviour and engagement.
• Work with the Head of Year to support underachieving or disengaged students and assist early intervention.
• Help students take responsibility for learning, organisation, attendance and future destinations.
• Support students in developing effective study habits, revision strategies, time management and independent learning skills.
• Liaise with subject teachers, tutors, Sixth Form team and parents where appropriate.
• Contribute to intervention plans for students needing additional academic or pastoral support.
• Support students in developing confidence, resilience and transition skills beyond Sixth Form.
• Maintain records of mentoring meetings and student progress.
• Follow safeguarding procedures and report concerns as required.
