Job summary

Cobalt Recruitment in the United Kingdom is seeking an experienced Freelance Site Manager to lead a £5m Cat B commercial fit-out in St Albans. This six-month freelance role starts in December and suits a hands-on manager with strong Cat A/B fit-out background.

You will oversee day-to-day site operations, coordinate around 20 operatives, manage safety, RAMS and site documentation, and work with the project team to keep the programme on track, with occasional weekend work as required.

Job description

We are looking for an experienced Freelance Site Manager to take a key role in the delivery of a £5m Cat B commercial fit-out project in St Albans.

This is a 6-month freelance position starting in December and would suit a strong, hands-on Site Manager with an excellent background in commercial Cat A and Cat B fit-out projects.

The Role

You will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the site, ensuring works are delivered safely, efficiently and to a high standard.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Day-to-day management of approximately 20 operatives and subcontractors
• Coordinating trades and ensuring works remain on programme
• Managing site logistics and daily activities
• Maintaining high standards of health & safety
• Managing inductions, RAMS and site documentation
• Monitoring quality and ensuring works are completed to specification
• Keeping on top of the site's biometric signing-in system and workforce attendance
• Liaising with the Project Manager, subcontractors and wider project team
• Managing short-term programmes and identifying potential delays
• Maintaining a professional, well-organised and productive site
• Occasional weekend working where required by the programme

What We're Looking For

The successful candidate must have strong previous experience delivering commercial Cat A and Cat B fit-out projects.

You will need to be confident managing a busy live site and coordinating multiple trades, with experience managing teams of around 20 operatives or more.

You should be organised, proactive and comfortable taking ownership of the day-to-day running of the project.

Relevant site management qualifications, including SMSTS, First Aid and CSCS, are expected.

Project Details

This is a £5m commercial Cat B fit-out in St Albans, running for approximately six months from December.

The role is predominantly Monday to Friday, although occasional weekend working will be required depending on the programme.
