Job summary

Balfour Beatty in Scotland is seeking a Site Engineer to join the Overhead Line project between Denny and Glasgow, helping deliver works safely, on programme and to high standards.

You will interpret drawings, coordinate site activities, maintain records and support planning, with a strong emphasis on safety, quality and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

  • HNC/HND, Degree or equivalent industry experience in Construction, Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
  • CSCS Card.
  • SSSTS or equivalent site supervision qualification.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.

Responsibilities

  • Support the delivery of OHL construction works from planning through to completion and handover.
  • Interpret technical drawings, specifications and engineered solutions and ensure works are delivered accordingly.
  • Supervise and coordinate site activities to ensure a right-first-time approach.
  • Set teams to work safely and monitor progress on site.
  • Maintain accurate project records, site diaries and reports.
  • Monitor programme progress and support short interval planning activities.
  • Identify, raise and manage site risks, issues and opportunities.
  • Coordinate with project teams, subcontractors and stakeholders to achieve project objectives.
  • Ensure materials, plant and resources are available to meet programme requirements.
  • Support project reviews and site meetings.

What you'll be doing
  • Supporting the delivery of OHL construction works from planning through to completion and handover.
  • Interpreting technical drawings, specifications and engineered solutions and ensuring works are delivered accordingly.

  • Setting teams to work safely and monitoring progress on site.
  • Maintaining accurate project records, site diaries and reports.
  • Monitoring programme progress and supporting short interval planning activities.
  • Identifying, raising and managing site risks, issues and opportunities.
  • Coordinating with project teams, subcontractors and stakeholders to achieve project objectives.
  • Ensuring materials, plant and resources are available to meet programme requirements.
  • Supporting project reviews and site meetings.
Health, Safety & Environment
  • Promoting and maintaining a strong safety culture with a relentless focus on Zero Harm.
  • Ensuring all works are carried out in line with health, safety and environmental requirements.
  • Producing, reviewing and implementing RAMS.
  • Issuing and controlling safety documentation.
  • Identifying and reporting hazards, risks and near misses.
  • Supporting site audits, inspections and investigations.
  • Taking an active role in safety initiatives, tours and briefings.
Quality & Compliance
  • Ensuring works are completed to specification and quality requirements.
  • Supporting quality inspections, audits and assurance activities.
  • Driving continuous improvement and sharing best practice across the project.
  • Monitoring compliance with project procedures and standards.
Commercial & Project Controls
  • Understanding project budgets and the impact of site activities on cost.
  • Monitoring labour, plant and material usage.
  • Raising and escalating commercial changes where required.
  • Supporting project planning and delivery against key milestones.
Who we're looking for
  • Experience working as a Site Engineer or in a similar construction or infrastructure environment.
  • Experience implementing safe systems of work.
  • Strong understanding of risk management and site delivery processes.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage at all levels.
  • Strong organisational and problem-solving skills.
  • A proactive, solutions-focused approach.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office 365.
  • Commitment to safety, quality and continuous improvement.
  • Demonstrates and promotes inclusion, respect and teamwork.
