Job summary

Balfour Beatty plc is seeking an experienced Section Engineer to join the Netherton Hub project in Peterhead. You will provide engineering control and set out for construction activities, ensuring quality and safety across the site, while working with delivery teams and surveying staff.

You will interpret drawings and maintain accurate records, develop method statements and risk assessments, and support technical issue resolution to keep progress on track.

Qualifications

  • HNC/HND, Degree or equivalent in Civil/Construction Engineering.
  • Experience carrying out engineering control and setting out on construction or infrastructure projects.
  • Strong understanding of construction quality requirements, specifications and engineering standards.
  • Experience producing quality documentation and maintaining accurate engineering records.
  • Good understanding of health, safety and environmental requirements in construction.

Responsibilities

  • Providing engineering control and setting out for construction activities across the project.
  • Establishing and maintaining accurate site control and survey information.
  • Interpreting engineering drawings, specifications and design documentation to support delivery teams.
  • Producing and maintaining quality documentation, including Activity Control Plans and Inspection & Test Plans.
  • Ensuring as-built records and engineering documentation are accurately maintained.
  • Raising and managing Technical Queries and supporting the resolution of technical issues.
  • Monitoring quality standards, identifying non-conformances and supporting close-out activities.
  • Supporting the development of Method Statements, Risk Assessments and Temporary Works documentation.
  • Promoting safe systems of work and contributing to site inspections, audits and Zero Harm initiatives.
  • Monitoring construction progress, maintaining short-term programmes and identifying delivery risks.
  • Supporting commercial processes through accurate record keeping, progress reporting and the identification of variations or additional works.
  • Providing technical support and guidance to Site Engineers, Graduate Engineers and other members of the project team.

About the role

Balfour Beatty is seeking an experienced Section Engineer to join our team on the Netherton Hub project in Peterhead. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in delivering a major infrastructure project, supporting the safe, efficient and high-quality execution of construction activities on site.

As a Section Engineer, you will provide engineering expertise and technical assurance across your allocated work areas, ensuring works are delivered in line with project specifications, designs and programme requirements. You will work closely with operational, commercial and planning teams, helping to drive performance while maintaining our commitment to safety, quality and sustainability.

What you'll be doing

Who we're looking for

We are looking for a proactive and technically capable engineering professional who is passionate about delivering high-quality infrastructure projects safely and efficiently.

You will have:

  • HNC/HND, Degree or equivalent experience in Civil Engineering or Construction Engineering.
  • Previous experience carrying out engineering control and setting out on construction or infrastructure projects.
  • Strong understanding of construction quality requirements, specifications and engineering standards.
  • Experience producing quality documentation and maintaining accurate engineering records.
  • A good understanding of health, safety and environmental requirements within a construction environment.
  • Experience using surveying equipment and engineering software to support project delivery.
  • A valid CSCS Card.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving and organisational skills.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD, BIM and digital engineering tools.

It would be beneficial if you also have:

  • Temporary Works Coordinator or Temporary Works Supervisor training.
  • Experience supporting or mentoring Graduate Engineers or Site Engineers.
  • Progress towards professional accreditation with ICE or another relevant engineering institution.
