Job summary

Balfour Beatty plc is seeking a Site Engineer to join the Power portfolio, supporting multi-utility diversion works on the Lower Thames Crossing – Roads North of the Thames programme. The role is site-based at the LTC compound in Grays, five days per week, with cross-zone opportunities as the programme progresses.

Qualifications

  • HNC/HND/Degree in engineering would be preferable or another engineering qualification and/or equivalent and relevant Site Experience in the Construction Industry
  • Comfortable with ambiguity, able to tease out sensitive issues and lead cross-functional teams towards solutions
  • Ability to work across conflicting interest groups to develop solutions to complex operational and commercial problems
  • We expect people management experience and strong relationship management skills
  • Knowledge of project management methodology and budgetary/financial awareness
  • Full UK Driving Licence

Responsibilities

  • Implement engineering designs, technical information and drawings into construction delivery.
  • Set out in accordance to project scope.
  • Set teams to work and supervise site activities to ensure safe, right-first-time delivery.
  • Support delivery of multi-utility works including electricity, gas, water, wastewater and telecoms diversions.
  • Manage subcontractors on site, monitor attendance, progress and quality of works.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety and environmental standards, maintaining a Zero Harm focus.
  • Prepare and review RAMS, identify risks and ensure safety controls.
  • Maintain accurate site records including diaries, progress updates and reports.
  • Support project governance through meetings, reporting and coordination with project teams.
  • Contribute to planning activities including resource planning and programme delivery.
  • Monitor quality and support assurance activities and audits.

About the role

Balfour Beatty is looking for aSite Engineerto join ourPower portfolio, supporting the delivery ofmulti-utility diversion workson theLower Thames Crossing – Roads North of the Thames (RNOT)programme.


This is a major infrastructure project whereutilities must be relocated or protected before highways and structures construction can begin. These works include electricity, gas, water, wastewater and telecommunications assets and are critical to unlocking the wider construction programme.


AsSite Engineer, you’ll play a key role in ensuring engineered solutions are correctly implemented on site, setting teams to work and ensuring delivery issafe, compliant and right first time. You’ll work closely with Construction Managers, Project Engineers and subcontractors to manage day-to-day site activities, technical delivery and construction quality.


The role issite-based at the LTC compound in Grays, workingfive days per week, with the opportunity to support works across multiple zones as the programme progresses.

What you'll be doing

Who we're looking for
  • HNC/HND/Degree in engineering discipline would be preferable or another engineering qualification and/or equivalent and relevant Site Experience in the Construction Industry
  • Comfortable with ambiguity, able to tease out sensitive issues and lead cross-functional teams towards solutions.
  • Ability to work across conflicting interest groups to develop solutions to complexoperational and commercial problems
  • People Management experience and relationship management skills
  • Commercial awareness with knowledge of both budgetary and Financial control.
  • Knowledge of Project Management methodology.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
