Job summary

CDM Recruitment Ltd is seeking an experienced Site Agent for a North East civils project. You will lead day‑to‑day site operations, manage site teams and subcontractors, and drive progress while ensuring safety and quality standards across complex works.

Ideal candidates will have strong leadership, good communication, and a track record in civils with SMSTS/CSCS First Aid qualifications. The role offers clear progression into project management within a well‑established contractor.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a Site Agent, Sub Agent, or senior operational role within civil engineering.
• Strong leadership and team management capabilities on civils and infrastructure schemes.
• Confident communicator with ability to drive programme performance and maintain safety quality.

Responsibilities

• Lead day‑to‑day site operations in line with programme.
• Oversee site teams, subcontractors, and suppliers ensuring high workmanship standards.
• Monitor progress, identify risks, and implement corrective actions to maintain momentum.
• Ensure quality inspections and documentation meet specification (ITPs).
• Promote health and safety compliance across site operations.
• Coordinate with Project Managers, engineers, clients and authorities to ensure smooth delivery.
• Support commercial teams with progress updates and site cost control.

We're supporting a well‑established civil engineering contractor in the North East who is looking to appoint an experienced Site Agent to oversee the delivery of key civils and infrastructure schemes. This role suits a confident operational leader who can manage site teams, drive programme performance, and ensure safe, high‑quality delivery across complex projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Operational Leadership: Lead day‑to‑day site operations, ensuring works progress safely, efficiently, and in line with programme.
• Team & Subcontractor Management: Oversee site teams, subcontractors, and suppliers, maintaining high standards of workmanship.
• Programme & Planning: Monitor progress, identify risks, and implement corrective actions to maintain project momentum.
• Quality Assurance: — Ensure all works meet specification, completing inspections, ITPs, and relevant documentation.
• Health & Safety Compliance: Promote safe working practices and ensure compliance with CDM and company procedures.
• Stakeholder Coordination: Liaise with Project Managers, Engineers, clients, and local authorities to maintain smooth project delivery.
• Commercial Awareness: Support commercial teams with progress updates, variations, and site‑based cost control.

What You'll Bring

• Proven experience as a Site Agent, Sub Agent, or senior operational role within civil engineering.
• Strong understanding of groundworks, drainage, utilities, structures, highways, or public realm.
• Confident communicator with excellent leadership and problem‑solving skills.
• Ability to manage multiple subcontractors and maintain high standards of safety and quality.
• SMSTS, CSCS, First Aid; additional civils‑related qualifications advantageous.
