Acute Ambulatory Care Unit

Sister/Charge Nurse (Band 6) – Fixed term Maternity Cover – 12 Months

There is an exciting opportunity to join the AACU leadership team!

The unit is a fun and friendly nurse-led team with a good patient to nurse ratio.

We operate 7 days a week – no *Nights*

The successful candidate will need significant experience in Acute/Oncology nursing, strong leadership skills, and the ability to serve as a positive role model.

A key aspect of the role involves supporting the Senior Charge Nurse to ensure the unit is safely staffed, developing the team, and contributing to practice development. Excellent communication skills and teamwork are essential.

Responsibilities include:

1. Deputising for and supporting the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse.
2. Maintaining a safe environment and escalating issues as appropriate.
3. Monitoring admissions for compliance with policies and escalating breaches.
4. Providing supportive management to new staff and junior team members, mentoring, and fostering personal development.
5. Leading the AACU team to ensure training compliance.
6. Assessing, planning, and implementing clinical care, maintaining accurate patient records, and auditing documentation.
7. Organising daily staffing schedules to match patient needs.
8. Being aware of staff and non-staff budgets.
9. Ensuring health and safety compliance through risk assessments.
10. Liaising with the Department Manager and senior nursing team on unit affairs and staff development.
11. Assisting in nursing recruitment processes.
12. Managing short and long-term sickness and absence collaboratively with the team.
