Assessment of individual care needs, planning, implementing and evaluating care.

Carries out care without direct supervision. Teaches and supervises basic students, unqualified staff, registered nurses, non-nursing staff and patients. Deploys staff according to service needs. Maintains and sets high standards of care within the department. Regularly takes charge of the clinical area in the absence of the person who has continuing responsibility.

Acts as a role model and leader to nursing staff.
