Job summary

Thiess is seeking a Shovel Operator to join our Production Mining Team. You will operate heavy earthmoving equipment safely, aim for maximum output, and follow supervisor instructions.

This full-time FIFO role offers a 2:1 roster Perth to Pilbara, with potential transition to 2:2, excellent camp facilities, and development opportunities.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of mining experience as a production excavator operator.
• Experience operating Hitachi EX3600 or CAT6060 is essential.
• Experience loading dump trucks in a mining production environment.
• Knowledge of ore markups and pit configuration.
• Proven commitment to health and safety.

Responsibilities

• Operate mining machinery safely and efficiently to maximise output.
• Follow supervisor instructions and Thiess policies.
• Perform pre-start checks and maintain high housekeeping.
• Excavate to design boundaries and maintain floor levels.
• Minimise dilution and meet design parameters.
• Set and maintain batter angles.

In this role, you will:

• Operating machinery efficiently, safely, and competently to ensure maximum output
• Complying with Thiess’ policies and procedures
• Responding to instructions from Mining Supervisor
• Excavating to design boundaries of ore bodies, berms and pit walls
• Ensuring floor levels are maintained
• Minimising dilution and achieving design parameters within acceptable tolerances
• Setting and maintain high housekeeping standards
• Carrying out pre-start checks

About you

• At least 5 years mining experience as mining production excavator operator
• Equivalent to or specific experience operating Hitachi EX3600 and CAT6060 is essential
• Experience in loading dump trucks in a mining production environment essential
• Sound knowledge and understanding of ore mark ups and pit configuration
• Skills to mine out benches and cutting batters, leaving minimal amount of material for final trim to design of batter angle
• Proven compliance and commitment to health and safety at all times
