Shift Team Leader

Location: West Sussex

Salary: Circa £70,000 (Per Annum)

Job Type: Permanent, Full-Time, Shift Based

About the Role

Our client operates within the power and energy sector, managing and maintaining a specialist power generation facility.

They are looking for an experienced Shift Team Leader to take responsibility for the safe, efficient and environmentally compliant operation of the plant and site, while supervising staff and contractors during their shift.

This is a hands-on operational role requiring strong technical awareness, leadership skills and a proactive approach to Health & Safety, environmental compliance, plant performance and maintenance.

Key Responsibilities

• Take responsibility for the safe and efficient operation of the plant and site, including responding to equipment breakdowns, faults and operational issues
• Operate and monitor plant equipment using DCS/SCADA systems, including turbines, boilers, pumps and conveyors, responding promptly to warnings and alarms
• Carry out regular plant inspections, operational readings, adjustments and PPM inspections, maintaining accurate records to support environmental and operational compliance
• Ensure the plant operates within defined parameters and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, availability and overall performance
• Supervise staff and contractors, including reviewing RAMS and ensuring all work is completed safely and in accordance with required procedures
• Maintain a strong focus on Health & Safety and environmental compliance, including PPE, safe working practices, defect reporting and environmentally responsible plant operation
• Manage lockouts and Permits to Work, including their issue and cancellation where required
• Participate in planned and unplanned outages and support the investigation and resolution of plant and equipment issues
• Monitor onsite stocks, consumables, spare parts and equipment deliveries, ensuring appropriate storage and replenishment when required
• Monitor APC Residue levels, arrange collections and complete relevant consignment documentation
• Carry out regular site inspections, identify defects and raise or complete maintenance requirements as appropriate
• Maintain site security, housekeeping and the correct storage of tools and equipment
• Monitor staff timekeeping and productivity, ensuring team members remain engaged and that concerns are reported to management
• Ensure effective shift handovers and maintain awareness of faults, issues and changes arising during previous shifts
• Undertake operational activities including QAL 3 checks, daily sample preparation, noise monitoring and vibration analysis
• Maintain control of site keys, two-way radios and the shift mobile phone, ensuring effective communication throughout the shift
• Support the training and development of less senior staff and contribute to the preparation and review of operational procedures and Risk Assessments
• Act as a First Aider and Fire Warden following appropriate training and undertake any other reasonable duties required as part of the role

Skills & Experience

• Previous experience in a power generation, energy, process, manufacturing or industrial plant environment
• Experience operating and monitoring complex plant and equipment, ideally using DCS/SCADA systems
• Experience supervising staff, contractors or maintenance teams, with a strong understanding of Health & Safety, RAMS, Permit to Work systems and safe working practices
• Strong organisational, communication and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently and make effective decisions during a shift
• Reliable, punctual and flexible approach to working hours and shift cover, with a willingness to undertake additional training where required
