Job summary

Astute People is seeking a Shift Team Leader to manage the operations team at an Energy from Waste facility in Worcestershire. The role focuses on safe, efficient plant performance, after-hours responsibility, and safety documentation management.

Qualifications

• Extensive operational experience within power generation (Energy from Waste, CCGT, biomass, coal or oil-fired).
• Strong understanding of health and safety legislation and environmental compliance.
• Experience operating under formal safety rules and permit to work systems.
• Level 3 qualification in operations or engineering.
• Willingness to work a shift pattern including day and night shifts.

Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate the shift operations team to ensure safe and efficient plant performance.
• Take delegated responsibility for site operations outside standard office hours.
• Act as Senior Authorised Person, issuing and cancelling safety documentation.
• Respond to and manage operational incidents and emergencies per site emergency plan.
• Ensure compliance with environmental permits and statutory requirements.
• Monitor plant performance and optimise availability, reliability and efficiency.
• Oversee waste acceptance to ensure only compliant materials are processed.
• Maintain shift logs, reports and incident documentation.
• Deliver structured and effective shift handovers.
• Support development, coaching and performance management of shift personnel.
• Promote safety culture and housekeeping standards across the site.
• Provide shift cover to maintain operational continuity.

Astute's Power Team is partnering with a leading energy provider to recruit a Shift Team Leader to work at an Energy from Waste plant in Worcestershire.

The Shift Team Leader role comes with a competitive salary and benefits package.

Responsibilities and duties of the Shift Team Leader role

• Lead and coordinate the activities of the shift operations team to ensure safe and efficient plant performance
• Take delegated responsibility for site operations outside of standard office hours
• Act as Senior Authorised Person, issuing and cancelling safety documentation in line with site safety rules
• Respond to and manage operational incidents and emergencies in accordance with the site emergency plan
• Ensure the facility operates in full compliance with environmental permits, planning conditions and statutory requirements
• Monitor plant performance and take proactive steps to optimise availability, reliability and efficiency
• Oversee waste acceptance to ensure only compliant materials are processed
• Maintain accurate shift logs, operational reports and incident documentation
• Deliver structured and effective shift handovers
• Support the development, coaching and performance management of shift personnel
• Promote a strong safety culture and high standards of housekeeping across the site
• Provide shift cover where required to maintain operational continuity

Professional qualifications

Extensive operational experience within a power generation environment such as Energy from Waste, CCGT, biomass, coal or oil-fired plant, or relevant experience as a Royal Navy Marine Engineer.

Strong understanding of health and safety legislation, environmental compliance and safe systems of work.

Experience operating under formal safety rules and permit to work systems.

Level 3 qualification in relevant subject such as operations or engineering.

Happy to work a shift pattern that includes day and night shifts.
