Responsibilities

• Leading shift personnel and allocating work to meet operational priorities.
• Monitoring plant performance using SCADA and associated control systems.
• Managing permit-to-work activities and safe mechanical and electrical isolations.
• Coordinating contractors and supporting maintenance teams.
• Using CMMS to support maintenance planning and record keeping.
• Helping plan shutdown work and minimise operational disruption.
• Maintaining environmental, health, safety and quality standards.
• Coaching colleagues and supporting their development.
• Responding calmly to incidents and following emergency procedures.
• Supporting plant optimisation, equipment reliability and continuous improvement.

Operations Shift Supervisor/Shift Team Leader

West Midlands | Permanent

Up to £58,000 DOE plus performance related bonus and additional benefits.

Shift pattern: A rotating rota covering 12-hour day and night shifts, with regular rest days and an extended scheduled break within the shift cycle. Full rota details will be discussed during the recruitment process.

PLEASE NOTE: Experience working within a power plant or energy-from-waste facility is essential for this Operations Shift Supervisor/Shift Team Leader position. This can be from any stage of your career and does not need to be your most recent role. Applications with experience solely in other industries will not be considered.

The Operations Shift Supervisor/Shift Team Leader role

You’ll oversee daily shift activities, provide clear direction to your team and coordinate operational and maintenance requirements.

Your responsibilities as Operations Shift Supervisor/Shift Team Leader will include:

• Leading shift personnel and allocating work to meet operational priorities.
• Monitoring plant performance using SCADA and associated control systems.
• Managing permit-to-work activities and safe mechanical and electrical isolations.
• Coordinating contractors and supporting maintenance teams.
• Using computerised maintenance management systems (CMMS) to support maintenance planning and record keeping.
• Helping plan shutdown work and minimise operational disruption.
• Maintaining environmental, health, safety and quality standards.
• Coaching colleagues and supporting their development.
• Responding calmly to incidents and following emergency procedures.
• Supporting plant optimisation, equipment reliability and continuous improvement.

What we’re looking for in an Operations Shift Supervisor/Shift Team Leader

You’ll bring experience supervising operational or engineering teams, a practical understanding of plant operations and a strong approach to safe working.

Our ideal Operations Shift Supervisor/Shift Team Leader will be comfortable prioritising workloads, making decisions under pressure and taking responsibility for their shift.

Relevant backgrounds

You may currently work, or have previously worked, as a Shift Team Leader, Shift Operations Supervisor, Shift Manager, Plant Operations Supervisor, Production Shift Supervisor or Control Room Supervisor.

Previous power generation or energy-from-waste experience is essential, even if you have since moved into another sector.
