Job summary

Skillmatch Recruitment Ltd is seeking a Shift Mechanical Engineer for a large facilities management contractor in the UK. Join a diverse role delivering both planned and reactive FM maintenance services and support energy-reduction initiatives on site.

You will carry out preventative maintenance, respond to breakdowns, supervise subcontractors, and ensure documentation and safety standards are met across multiple properties.

Qualifications

• City & Guilds Level II/III in mechanical disciplines.
• Experience maintaining and fault-finding on boiler plant, ventilation, pumps, generators, switchgear, batteries, lighting systems.
• Strong understanding of Health & Safety and safe working practices.

Responsibilities

• Carry out Planned Preventative Maintenance and complete all required paperwork.
• Respond to reactive and emergency breakdowns with accurate documentation.
• Assist other team members as directed by Supervisor or Contract Manager.
• Ensure all tasks are completed within contractual time scales.
• Proactively support energy‑reduction initiatives on site.
• Supervise visiting sub‑contractors, ensuring high standards and Health & Safety compliance.
• Adopt a flexible attitude to support additional properties when required.
• Complete all documentation accurately and on time.
• Work safely, diligently, and in line with company policies and procedures.
• Participate fully in training and appraisal activities.
