Job summary

Stonegate Farmers Ltd at the Egg Innovation Centre in the UK is seeking a Maintenance Engineer to join the engineering team. You will carry out planned preventative maintenance and respond to breakdowns to keep production running efficiently.

In a fast-paced food manufacturing environment, you will diagnose electrical, mechanical and control faults, implement corrective actions, and help install and improve equipment while maintaining safety and quality standards.

Qualifications

• Time-served apprenticeship or equivalent in electrical/mechanical discipline.
• Experience in food manufacturing or FMCG environments is essential.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and documentation.

Responsibilities

• Carry out PPM and reactive maintenance across processing equipment.
• Diagnose mechanical, electrical and control faults and fix safely.
• Assist installation, commissioning and improvement of equipment.

Job description

Working Hours: 4 on4 off - (06.00am - 18.00pm / 18.00pm - 06.00am) Stonegate Farmers Ltd has an exciting opportunity for a Maintenance Engineer to join our Engineering team at the Egg Innovation Centre (EIC), our state-of-the-art cooked egg processing facility. Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will play a vital role in ensuring the reliability, efficiency and performance of our production equipment. Working in a fast-paced food manufacturing environment, you will be responsible for carrying out both planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance activities across a wide range of machinery and processing equipment.

As a Maintenance Engineer, you will:

• Carry out planned preventative maintenance activities in line with maintenance schedules and engineering priorities.
• Respond quickly and effectively to equipment breakdowns, identifying faults and implementing corrective actions to minimise disruption to production.
• Diagnose mechanical, electrical and control system faults using a methodical approach.
• Ensure all repairs are completed safely, efficiently and to a high standard.
• Conduct routine inspections of machinery and equipment to identify potential issues before they impact production.
• Support the installation, commissioning and improvement of new and existing equipment.
• Proactively identify opportunities to improve machinery reliability, performance and operational efficiency.
• Assist in root cause analysis investigations and implement corrective actions to prevent recurring issues.
• Support engineering and production teams with continuous improvement projects aimed at reducing downtime and increasing productivity.
• Contribute ideas and solutions that help drive cost savings, improve performance and enhance operational effectiveness.
• Complete all maintenance documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
• Ensure maintenance records, fault logs and PPM documentation are maintained to company standards.
• Work in accordance with Health & Safety requirements, food safety standards and engineering best practices.
• Comply with site procedures, risk assessments and permit-to-work systems where applicable.
• Work collaboratively across departments to achieve production targets and site objectives.

Essential

• Time-served apprenticeship, NVQ Level 3, BTEC Level 3 or equivalent qualification in an electrical, mechanical or electro-mechanical discipline.
• Previous experience working within a food manufacturing, FMCG, packaging or production environment.
• Experience carrying out planned preventative maintenance and reactive breakdown repairs.
• Good understanding of electrical maintenance and fault-finding.
• Working knowledge of mechanical systems, motors, conveyors, pumps, pneumatics and production machinery.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation.

Desirable

• Experience of working within a highly automated manufacturing environment.
• Knowledge of PLC-controlled equipment and automated production systems.
• Food industry experience and understanding of hygiene and food safety regulations.
• Continuous improvement or Lean Manufacturing experience.
