Job summary

Stonegate Farmers Ltd is seeking a Maintenance Engineer to join our Egg Innovation Centre’s engineering team. You will maintain production equipment in a fast-paced food manufacturing environment, carrying out PPM and reactive repairs and supporting continuous improvement projects.

The role reports to the Engineering Manager and requires reading engineering drawings, fault-finding electrical/mechanical issues, and ensuring safe, high-quality maintenance work. Experience in FMCG is preferred.

Qualifications

• Time-served apprenticeship or equivalent qualification in electrical/mechanical discipline.
• Experience in a food manufacturing/FMCG environment is essential.
• Experience carrying out planned preventative maintenance and reactive repairs.
• Good understanding of electrical maintenance and fault-finding.
• Knowledge of mechanical systems: motors, conveyors, pumps, pneumatics and production machinery.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation.

Responsibilities

• Carry out planned preventative maintenance in line with schedules and priorities.
• Respond to breakdowns; diagnose faults and implement corrective actions to minimise downtime.
• Diagnose electrical, mechanical and control system faults using a methodical approach.
• Ensure all repairs are completed safely and to a high standard.

• Support installation, commissioning and improvement of equipment.
• Identify opportunities to improve machinery reliability and efficiency.
• Contribute to root cause analysis and corrective actions to prevent recurrences.
• Assist in continuous improvement projects to reduce downtime and increase productivity.

Stonegate Farmers Ltd has an exciting opportunity for a Maintenance Engineer to join our Engineering team at the Egg Innovation Centre (EIC), our state-of-the‑art cooked egg processing facility.

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will play a vital role in ensuring the reliability, efficiency and performance of our production equipment. Working in a fast‑paced food manufacturing environment, you will be responsible for carrying out both planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance activities across a wide range of machinery and processing equipment.

As a Maintenance Engineer, you will:

• Carry out planned preventative maintenance activities in line with maintenance schedules and engineering priorities.
• Respond quickly and effectively to equipment breakdowns, identifying faults and implementing corrective actions to minimise disruption to production.
• Diagnose mechanical, electrical and control system faults using a methodical approach.
• Ensure all repairs are completed safely, efficiently and to a high standard.

• Proactively identify opportunities to improve machinery reliability, performance and operational efficiency.

• Support engineering and production teams with continuous improvement projects aimed at reducing downtime and increasing productivity.
• Contribute ideas and solutions that help drive cost savings, improve performance and enhance operational effectiveness.
• Complete all maintenance documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
• Ensure maintenance records, fault logs and PPM documentation are maintained to company standards.
• Work in accordance with Health & Safety requirements, food safety standards and engineering best practices.
• Comply with site procedures, risk assessments and permit‑to‑work systems where applicable.
• Work collaboratively across departments to achieve production targets and site objectives.

Essential

• Time‑served apprenticeship, NVQ Level 3, BTEC Level 3 or equivalent qualification in an electrical, mechanical or electro‑mechanical discipline.
• Previous experience working within a food manufacturing, FMCG, packaging or production environment.
• Experience carrying out planned preventative maintenance and reactive breakdown repairs.
• Good understanding of electrical maintenance and fault‑finding.
• Working knowledge of mechanical systems, motors, conveyors, pumps, pneumatics and production machinery.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation.

Desirable

• Experience of working within a highly automated manufacturing environment.
• Knowledge of PLC‑controlled equipment and automated production systems.
• Food industry experience and understanding of hygiene and food safety regulations.
• Continuous improvement or Lean Manufacturing experience.
