Job summary

SF Partners in Birmingham is recruiting two Continental Shift Engineers for a hands-on, multi-skilled role supporting production equipment and site services. You will work two 12-hour days (6am-6pm) followed by two 12-hour nights (6pm-6am) with four days off, on a continental shift pattern.

The role involves diagnosing faults, carrying out planned and reactive maintenance, and improving uptime, energy efficiency, and waste reduction on heavy plant, boilers, and high-pressure systems.

Qualifications

• Practical mechanical and electrical maintenance experience.
• Experience with heavy motorised/hydraulic plant and boilers.
• Ability to read electrical/fluid control diagrams; CMMS experience.
• Engineering apprenticeship or BTEC qualification beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical faults to keep equipment running safely.
• Carry out planned and reactive maintenance on production equipment.
• Work with heavy motorised and hydraulic plant and steam systems.
• Identify recurring faults and deliver improvements to reduce downtime and energy use.
• Support installations, inspections and start-up/shutdown activities.
• Complete permits, risk assessments and CMMS work orders; handovers.
• Coordinate contractors and maintain critical spares.

£55,000 - £61,000 P/ a

We’re recruiting two Continental Shift Engineers for an established manufacturing business in Birmingham. This is a hands‑on, multi‑skilled role supporting production equipment, plant services and site improvement projects.

You’ll work two 12-hour days (6am-6pm), followed by two 12-hour nights (6pm-6am), then four days off.

The role

• Diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical faults to keep equipment running safely and reliably.
• Carry out planned and reactive maintenance on production equipment and plant services.
• Work with heavy motorised and hydraulic plant, steam generation, boilers and high-pressure fluid systems.
• Identify recurring faults and deliver improvements that reduce downtime, energy use and waste.
• Support installations, statutory inspections and factory start-up and shutdown activities.
• Complete permits, risk assessments, CMMS work orders and clear shift handovers.
• Coordinate contractors where required and help maintain critical spares.

What we’re looking for

You’ll need practical mechanical and electrical maintenance experience, including a systematic approach to fault finding. Experience with heavy motorised and hydraulic plant, steam generation or boiler house operations, and high-pressure fluid systems is required.

A recognised engineering apprenticeship or BTEC qualification would be beneficial, as would the ability to read electrical or fluid control diagrams and experience using a CMMS.
