Job summary

Zest is seeking a Shift Engineer for its UK food manufacturing site. You will perform planned and reactive maintenance on high-speed production equipment, respond to breakdowns to minimise downtime, and work with production and engineering teams to support continuous improvement.

The role requires a recognised engineering qualification, a multi-skilled background with electrical bias preferred, and FMCG experience. Rotating days/nights, with a competitive salary and overtime plus benefits.

Shift Engineer

Salary: £50,000 - £55,000 + overtime + benefits

Shift Pattern: Rotating shift pattern

Commutable from: Wisbech, King's Lynn, Peterborough, Spalding, March

Our client is a well-established, large-scale food manufacturing business supplying major retailers across the UK. Due to continued growth, they are looking to add a Shift Engineer to their engineering team.

The Role

• Carry out planned and reactive maintenance across a range of high-speed production and processing equipment
• Respond to breakdowns to minimise downtime and maintain production efficiency
• Work closely with production and engineering teams to support continuous improvement
• Ensure all work is completed safely and in line with food safety standards
• Maintain accurate records of maintenance activity

What We're Looking For

• A recognised engineering qualification (e.g. NVQ Level 3, HNC, or equivalent apprenticeship)
• Multi-skilled engineering background, electrical bias preferred but not essential
• Experience within FMCG, food manufacturing, or a similarly fast-paced production environment
• Willingness to work a rotating shift pattern, covering both days and nights
• A proactive, hands‑on approach with strong problem‑solving skills
