Job summary

365 Recruit is seeking an experienced Setting Out Engineer for a busy construction project in the Cardiff area. You will be responsible for accurate setting out and surveying works, working closely with the Site Manager, Project Manager and subcontractors to ensure works are delivered in line with drawings, specifications and programme requirements.

The role requires hands-on use of Total Stations and GPS/GNSS, strong reading of drawings and QA of as-built records.

Qualifications

• Experience as a Setting Out Engineer on construction or civil projects.
• Competent with Total Station and GPS/GNSS surveying equipment.
• Strong understanding of drawings, levels, coordinates and tolerances.
• CSCS card is required.
• Experience with AutoCAD or surveying software advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Carry out accurate setting out for foundations, drainage, roads, kerbs, utilities and structural works.
• Establish and maintain site control points, datums and benchmarks.
• Use Total Stations, GPS/GNSS and other surveying equipment.
• Interpret drawings, specifications and construction information.
• Check dimensions, levels, coordinates and tolerances.
• Undertake as-built surveys and maintain records.
• Provide technical support to site teams and subcontractors.
• Identify discrepancies and raise technical queries.
• Liaise with Site Managers and designers on engineering requirements.
• Assist with QA, inspections and completion documentation.
• Ensure works follow drawings, specifications and method statements.
• Maintain records of setting-out information.
• Ensure all activities comply with health and safety.

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Setting Out Engineer to work on a busy construction project. The successful candidate will be responsible for accurate setting out and surveying works, working closely with the Site Manager, Project Manager and subcontractors to ensure works are delivered in accordance with drawings, specifications and programme requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out accurate setting out for foundations, drainage, roads, kerbs, utilities, structural elements and associated construction works.
• Establish and maintain site control points, datums and benchmarks.
• Use Total Stations, GPS/GNSS and other surveying equipment to complete setting-out activities.
• Interpret engineering drawings, specifications and construction information.
• Check dimensions, levels, coordinates and tolerances throughout the works.
• Undertake as-built surveys and maintain accurate survey records.
• Provide technical support to site teams and subcontractors.
• Identify discrepancies between drawings and site conditions and raise technical queries where required.
• Liaise with Site Managers, Project Managers, designers and subcontractors regarding engineering requirements.
• Assist with quality assurance, inspections and completion documentation.
• Ensure works are carried out in accordance with approved drawings, specifications and method statements.
• Maintain accurate records of setting-out information and completed works.
• Ensure all engineering activities comply with site health & safety requirements.

Experience & Requirements

• Previous experience working as a Setting Out Engineer on construction or civil engineering projects.
• Competent using Total Station and GPS/GNSS surveying equipment.
• Strong understanding of construction drawings, levels, coordinates and tolerances.
• Experience with AutoCAD and associated engineering/surveying software advantageous.
• Good knowledge of QA procedures and as-built documentation.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to identify potential engineering issues.
• Ability to work independently and coordinate effectively with the wider site team.
• Relevant engineering qualification such as HNC/HND/Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent experience.
• CSCS card required.

Desirable Experience

Experience setting out one or more of the following would be advantageous:

• Groundworks and drainage
• Reinforced concrete and foundations
• Roads and infrastructure
• Utilities and service installations
• Structural works
• Commercial or residential construction
• Large-scale civil engineering projects

The successful Setting Out Engineer will be expected to provide accurate and reliable engineering support throughout the project, ensuring works are constructed correctly and in accordance with the approved design information
