Job Description:

The service manager has responsibility for coordinating staff and resources to achieve high standards of care, considering the physical, social, and psychological needs of service users. Ensuring welfare and compliance with standards and statutory requirements. Operating within legislative frameworks and promoting values and care ethos within the team and home.

The area Service Manager will oversee and support managers of 5 supported living projects and community activities for adults and children of Lynton Community Care. The Service Manager reports directly to the Registered Individual.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Referring, assessing, liaising with previous care teams, families, and advocates to develop personalized care and risk management plans.
  2. Maintaining good communication and relationships with service users, relatives, and professionals involved in their care.
  3. Ensuring compliance with statutory requirements and best practices, including the Health and Social Care Act 2008, Health & Safety, COSHH, Mental Capacity Act 2005, and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards.
  4. Controlling the home environment, ensuring health and safety legislation is followed, risks are managed, and the environment is safe.
  5. Working with CIW to understand and comply with Fundamental Standards and carrying out statutory notifications.
  6. Managing legal and statutory documentation related to the home (insurance, enrollment, etc.).
  7. Documenting maintenance issues and ensuring appropriate actions are taken.
  8. Monitoring and investigating complaints, generating reports, and implementing corrective actions.
  9. Recruiting, inducting, and training staff; supporting team development.
  10. Promoting openness and honesty, supporting staff decision-making and service improvements.
  11. Holding regular staff meetings, providing supervision, and supporting staff development.
  12. Building positive relationships with staff and ensuring effective communication.
  13. Participating in disciplinary processes, including suspensions, investigations, and decisions.
  14. Managing staff schedules, rotas, absences, and holiday/sickness coverage.
  15. Managing medication ordering, booking, disposal, and auditing.
  16. Overseeing budgeting and expenditure, including petty cash, shopping, and activity budgets.
  17. Safeguarding service users and managing safeguarding issues.
  18. Applying for Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards and working with personal representatives to ensure legal compliance.
  19. Being on call out of hours for advice and incident response.
  20. Attending supervision and engaging in continuous professional development.
  21. Participating in strategic decision-making and business growth.
  22. Performing other duties as assigned by the Director, appropriate to skills and competence.
  23. Managing budgets and financials.
  24. Writing and auditing behavioral reports.

The Service Manager must have skills and qualifications supporting both adults and children with learning disabilities.
