Job summary

Be Applied Ltd in Oxfordshire is seeking a mid-level Service Designer to join the User-Centred Design team at the Satellite Applications Catapult, working on early-stage problems and turning uncertainty into clear opportunities.

You will use design tools like problem framing, workshops, service blueprints, journeys, and prototypes to inform decisions. This is a hybrid role with two onsite days per week and collaboration across partners from industry and public sector.

Qualifications

• Approximately 2 years in service design, product design, UX, design research, design strategy or related fields with real examples.
• Ability to make complex situations understandable: what matters, what is known, what is assumed, and what needs deciding.
• Experience planning and running interviews and stakeholder engagement, synthesising findings, and turning information into actionable insights.
• Ability to design and lead workshops with mixed groups to create focus, alignment and decisive outcomes.
• Proactive and capable of showing progress through artefacts and lightweight deliverables.

Responsibilities

• Create clarity in ambiguity and define what 'good' looks like.
• Run workshops and working sessions that end with clear choices and next steps.
• Produce sketches, journeys, service blueprints, flows, or prototypes to test ideas.
• Conduct user and stakeholder research and translate findings into implications.
• Facilitate collaboration between specialists and ensure user needs guide decisions.
• Ask fundamental questions early and surface gaps, risks, and constraints.
• Support delivery by mapping scope, trade-offs, and acceptance criteria.
• Strengthen UCD practices by improving templates and ways of working.
