Job summary

Murphy is recruiting a Senior Water Process Design Engineer to support our expanding water and wastewater portfolio from Newry. You will deliver design solutions from concept through construction, commissioning and operations, focusing on process, mechanical and hydraulic design.

You will collaborate with MEICA, digital, and project teams, engage with clients to resolve technical queries, and mentor junior engineers while delivering high‑quality outputs within programme and budget constraints.

Qualifications

• Minimum Level 8 Honours Degree in Chemical, Water/Wastewater, Environmental, or Process Engineering (or related discipline).
• At least 5 years’ relevant experience within water, wastewater, or process engineering sectors.
• Strong process and hydraulic engineering capability, including design, calculations, and equipment selection.
• Proven ability to review and validate contractor proposals and ensure standards adherence.
• Experience developing site layouts and integrating design solutions across MEICA disciplines.
• Proficient with BIM360, ACC, ProjectWise or similar CDEs for digital delivery.
• Strong stakeholder management, leading design discussions and client presentations.
• Ability to mentor junior engineers and work in multidisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

• Prepare Process & Mechanical Design Reports with robust technical detail.
• Develop efficient, safe, future‑proofed site layouts with operability and access.
• Collaborate with MEICA, Digital team, planners, PMs and clients for technical alignment.
• Engage with clients and third‑party agencies to resolve design queries.
• Support project scope, budget, programme and deliverables definitions.
• Develop, review and validate design proposals to meet standards.
• Monitor progress against schedules and flag risks or constraints.
• Lead design reviews, HAZOPs, ALMs and constructability workshops.
• Ensure lifecycle and whole‑life performance considerations are included.
• Provide construction/commissioning support to verify design intent.
• Liaise with site teams to update drawings and support testing.
