Job summary

AECOM is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join the South West and Wales Water team, with flexibility to base from Exeter, Bristol or Cardiff. You will contribute to multi‑billion pound UK water programmes, delivering both water and wastewater projects across AMP8/AMP9 and beyond.

You’ll design mechanical installations, produce layouts and specifications, liaise across multi‑discipline teams, and support bids and budgets while travelling to site as needed.

Qualifications

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering required or equivalent.
• Progress towards Chartered Engineer status expected.
• Knowledge of pump station design, piping design, valve selection and hydraulics.
• Proven ability to deliver engineering designs, reports, drawings, technical specifications and calculations.
• Hands-on experience delivering water and/or wastewater projects.

Responsibilities

• Produce feasibility studies, outline and detailed design, and construction support.
• Produce design drawings, mechanical plant selection and specifications.
• Collaborate with water, civil, electrical, and process engineers nationwide.
• Ensure quality, assist bids, and interface with clients and partners.
• Design mechanical installations including pumping stations, screens, grit removal, penstocks and valves.
• Conduct site visits and liaise with clients, contractors and suppliers.
• Produce plant layouts, specifications and P&IDs, pump system analysis.
