Job summary

Amber Labs is recruiting a Senior User Researcher to support nationally significant UK government digital transformation programs. You will plan and run research across multidisciplinary teams, turning findings into actionable insights that shape service design and delivery.

You’ll collaborate with designers, product managers and engineers to keep user needs at the center of decisions, advocate for accessibility, and contribute to ongoing discovery and governance across projects.

Qualifications

• Active SC Clearance.
• Experience delivering user research within complex digital transformation programmes.
• Strong understanding of user-centred design and research methodologies.
• Experience conducting qualitative research, including interviews, usability testing and workshops.
• Ability to analyse and synthesise complex research findings into clear insights.
• Experience working within agile multidisciplinary teams.
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
• Ability to influence decision-making through evidence-based recommendations.
• Experience producing research plans, discussion guides and presentations.
• Strong understanding of accessibility and inclusive design principles.

Responsibilities

• Planning, designing and conducting user research using qualitative and quantitative methods.
• Developing research strategies aligned to objectives and user needs.
• Recruiting participants and managing research activities with governance and ethics.
• Conducting interviews, usability testing, workshops and observational research.
• Analysing findings and identifying themes, opportunities and risks.
• Producing evidence-based recommendations for product and service decisions.
• Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to influence delivery decisions.
• Presenting findings to stakeholders at varying levels of seniority.
• Building strong relationships with product, design, delivery and operations teams.
• Advocating for user-centred design across programmes and projects.
• Supporting ongoing discovery and iterative service development.
• Helping teams understand user journeys, pain points and opportunities.
• Contributing to service assessments and evidence gathering.
• Promoting research best practice and improving research maturity.
• Applying GDS-aligned user research practices and standards.
• Ensuring accessibility and inclusive design in research activities.
