Job summary

Sheffield City Council is seeking a Senior Technician to join the Transport Projects Team. You will develop concept and preliminary designs for highway and transport schemes, balancing engineering, operational and community needs while working in a multidisciplinary environment.

You will produce technical drawings, support active travel and public transport improvements, and engage with residents and elected members. A strong design background and AutoCAD skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Experience developing transport, highway or traffic engineering schemes.
• Knowledge of highway design standards and traffic management principles.
• Ability to interpret technical guidance and apply it to real-world projects.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to engage with stakeholders and the public.

Responsibilities

• Produce concept and preliminary highway and traffic designs for schemes.
• Prepare technical drawings and consultation plans using AutoCAD and similar tools.
• Support development of active travel and public transport improvement schemes.
• Develop and process Traffic Regulation Orders (TROs).
• Conduct site inspections, surveys and technical assessments to support scheme delivery.
• Provide technical assurance and design support throughout projects.
• Advise on traffic management and liaise with highways and planning teams.
• Engage residents and stakeholders through consultations and meetings.
• Contribute to city-wide traffic management and signage strategies.
