Job summary

WSP is seeking an Associate Director - Transport Planning to lead complex transport and development planning projects across the North of England. The role can be based from Manchester or Newcastle, with hybrid working and a focus on strategic studies, Local Plans and major infrastructure frameworks.

You will oversee multidisciplinary teams, engage with National Highways and public sector clients, and contribute to growth through bids and client relationships.

Qualifications

• Significant experience in transport planning and/or spatial planning within consultancy, infrastructure or public sector.
• Experience leading development planning projects from feasibility through planning approval and implementation.
• Strong understanding of the UK planning system (NPPF, Local Plans, Planning Act).
• Proven ability to manage multidisciplinary projects and teams.
• Chartered status, or demonstrable progression toward chartership.

Responsibilities

• Lead complex transport planning, spatial planning and development planning projects across the North of England.
• Direct multidisciplinary teams delivering Transport Assessments, Statements, Travel Plans and active travel strategies.
• Provide senior technical direction on Local Plans, Frameworks and growth strategies.
• Lead NSIP, DCO, and expert evidence work for major projects.
• Support business development and client relationships for National Highways and other public sector clients.
