Job summary

WSP in the UK & Ireland is seeking an experienced Senior Consultant to support our Development Team in Liverpool, specialising in Transport/Civil Engineering for Development Planning. You will deliver transport planning work from concept through planning approval, providing specialist advice to clients and helping multi‑disciplinary teams succeed.

Qualifications

• A numerate first degree in Transport, Mathematics, Geography, Civil Engineering, Planning or a related subject.
• Experience operating as a lead client contact for consultancy services and fostering client relationships.
• Strong written communication supporting development proposals.
• Knowledge of transport planning guidance and best practice.
• Experience delivering transport planning projects across development planning, scheme delivery, sustainable transport and active travel.
• Familiarity with junction modelling software (Junctions 9, PICADY, ARCADY) and Linsig.
• Good numeracy, problem solving and innovative thinking.
• Experience managing projects financially and to programme.
• Line management or team leadership experience.
• Knowledge of financial and contractual aspects of planning, bidding and delivery.

Responsibilities

• Lead delivery of concept studies, Transport Statements, Transport Assessments and Travel Plans with a hands‑on role.
• Manage client relationships and coordinate with cross‑disciplinary teams.
• Ensure projects meet budget, programme, technical standards and legal requirements.
• Mentor developing staff and provide guidance on transport planning tasks.
• Engage with stakeholders and contribute to project management across multiple projects.
