Job summary

WSP is seeking a Senior Development Planner to support the regional Development Team in Edinburgh or Glasgow, specialising in Transport/Civil Engineering for Development Planning. You will provide sustainable development solutions, advise on residential/mixed‑use projects, and deliver studies and assessments throughout the planning process.

You will lead client relationships, mentor staff, and manage projects to budget and programme while applying transport planning guidance and best practice.

Qualifications

• Experience leading client contact for consultancy services and fostering excellent client relationships.
• Strong communication skills and track record of presenting compelling written work.
• Knowledge of transport planning guidance and best practice.
• Significant experience delivering transport planning projects across development planning, scheme delivery, sustainable transport and active travel, junction design, and relevant standards.
• Working knowledge of junction modelling software (Junctions 9, PICADY, ARCADY, Linsig) and ability to mentor others.
• High numeracy with problem‑solving skills and innovative thinking.
• Experience financially and programme managing projects using appropriate business tools.
• Experience in team management, including line management and day‑to‑day operations.
• Robust knowledge of financial and contractual aspects of planning, bidding, and project delivery.
• Postgraduate experience and nearing chartership or equivalent commercial experience and responsibility.

Responsibilities

• Provide day‑to‑day support in delivering transport Studies and assessments, leading to planning applications.
• Maintain collaborative client relationships and high client satisfaction.
• Develop relationships with key clients and guide project teams.
• Stay updated with standards and raise the company profile through networking.
• Mentor technical staff and support line management activities.
• Engage with clients and stakeholders and oversee design team liaison and project delivery.
• Deliver projects on budget, programme, technical standards and legal requirements.
