Job summary

Amey is seeking a permanent Track Engineer to join our Consulting Rail team across Derby, Manchester, Birmingham and York. The role offers exposure to major UK rail projects and a chance to influence safety, efficiency and passenger experience through innovative design solutions.

You will work within a multidisciplinary team, delivering designs across project lifecycles, supporting bids, and potentially supervising junior engineers on-site or in hybrid arrangements.

Qualifications

• Degree or masters in a relevant discipline.
• Developed experience within Track Engineering, likely in an engineering role in Rail.
• Experience in rail track engineering, design, maintenance or renewals.
• Ability to work commercially, meet targets and deliver technically sound designs.

Responsibilities

• Work in a team to produce technically sound engineering solutions meeting standards and client requirements, supervising junior staff.
• Prepare and check designs, calculations, drawings and documentation for scheme deliverables, supervising others as needed.
• Liaise with client and supplier representatives, attend progress meetings and respond to queries.
• Manage a small local single‑discipline technical team and deliver workload.
• Contribute to bids and general work‑winning activities.
• On-site work, visiting or full-time temporary roles, including out-of-hours work.
• Act as people manager when required by the business
