Job summary

Balfour Beatty Ground Engineering seeks a Principal Temporary Works Engineer to coordinate temporary works across the Sizewell C project in Leiston, Suffolk. The role demands ownership of the temporary works process, guidance to site teams, and robust risk management throughout design and construction.

2-year fixed-term contract. Requirements include 5–7 years’ experience, CSCS, and CITB Temporary Works Coordinator qualification; SMSTS preferred.

Qualifications

• 5–7 years' relevant experience in temporary works.
• Ability to read, interpret and implement drawings and specs.
• Identify temporary works on site and understand loading constraints.
• Make independent engineering decisions under pressure.
• Recognise limits and seek appropriate support when needed.
• Assess Temporary Works Supervisors and provide oversight.
• Authority to stop work if safety or compliance is at risk.

Responsibilities

• Maintain the Temporary Works Register and track design, approvals and delivery against the programme.
• Coordinate with the client's temporary works management team and guide site teams.
• Identify and assess temporary works requirements and prepare design briefs.
• Coordinate temporary works designs with permanent works designers and wider teams.
• Review design outputs to ensure they meet the brief, programme and requirements.
• Communicate residual risks and confirm suitable controls are in place.
• Issue approved drawings, specifications and design change information to site teams.
• Maintain accurate temporary works documentation within site management systems.
• Review RAMS and ITPs to ensure controls and hold points are included.
• Oversee Temporary Works Supervisors and support specialist designs.
