Job summary

Leicestershire County Council is seeking a Senior Technician (Development Approvals) within the Infrastructure Planning Team in the Environment and Transport Department. Qualifications

• BTEC Higher in Civil Engineering or equivalent qualification, or proven experience with continued learning.
• Experience in engineering settings related to road construction or new developments.
• Collaborative work with customers and key stakeholders to deliver outcomes.
• Ability to interpret and write technical and non-technical reports, providing advice based on standards (DMRB, LHDG, Manual for Streets, etc.).
• Knowledge of current legislation and procedures (Highways Act, NPPF, NRSWA, TMA, CDM).
• Excellent communication and presentation skills with concise written advice and negotiation ability.
• Ability to work to tight timescales and meet targets.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Technician (Development Approvals) within the Infrastructure Planning Team in the Environment and Transport Department.

We are looking for someone to assist in the technical approval of third-party highways and transportation schemes through the development process and to provide highway engineering advice as part of the authority’s responses to planning authority consultations for offsite highway works.

About the Role

This role will involve working alongside colleagues in the Development Approvals team; providing technical expertise on adoptable highway infrastructure to ensure they meet current standards, whilst facilitating development, and encouraging economic growth.

You will enjoy working in a fast-paced environment and have experience of managing your own workload and working to deadlines.

You will have excellent communication and negotiation skills, and the ability to build relationships with stakeholders.

About You

• A BTEC Higher in Civil Engineering or equivalent qualification OR experience that meets the essential requirement with evidence of continued learning and development.
• Working in an engineering setting, in relation to design, management, maintenance or administrative processes for road construction or new developments.
• Collaborative working with customers and key stakeholders to deliver and outcomes.
• Interpreting and writing technical and non-technical reports and providing technical advice based on relevant guidance and standards; DMRB, Leicestershire Highway Design Guide (LHDG), Manual for Streets, LTN 1/20 etc.
• Current legislation, policies and procedures; Highways Act, NPPF, NRSWA, Traffic Management Act, Traffic Regulation Act, CDM etc.
• Have excellent communication and presentation skills, including being able to provide relevant, concise written advice and negotiate successful outcomes.
• Be able to work to tight timescales and to agreed targets.
