Job summary

Leicestershire County Council is seeking a Senior Technician (Development Approvals) to join the Infrastructure Planning Team in the Environment and Transport Department. You will assess third-party highways schemes through the development process and provide highway engineering advice in responses to planning consultations.

Qualifications

• Hold a BTEC Higher in Civil Engineering or equivalent, or demonstrate equivalent experience with ongoing learning.
• Experience in an engineering setting related to road construction or development.
• Experience collaborating with customers and stakeholders to deliver outcomes.
• Ability to interpret and write technical and non-technical reports and give technical advice based on guidance and standards (DMRB, LHDG, Manual for Streets, LTN 1/20).
• Knowledge of relevant legislation and procedures (Highways Act, NPPF, NRSWA, Traffic Management Act, Traffic Regulation Act, CDM).
• Excellent communication and presentation skills with concise written advice and negotiation abilities.
• Ability to work to tight timescales and meet targets.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the technical approval of third-party highways and transportation schemes through the development process.
• Provide highway engineering advice to responses to planning consultations for offsite highway works.
• Work with the Development Approvals team to ensure adoptable highway infrastructure meets standards.
• Manage own workload and deadlines; communicate with stakeholders.
