Job summary

Leicestershire County Council is seeking a Technician in the Infrastructure Planning Team within the Environment and Transport Department. The role supports flood risk management and the council’s Lead Local Flood Authority responsibilities, delivering capital projects and managing data.

You will work with colleagues, engage stakeholders, and travel across the county as needed. Driving licence required; part of a busy team working to deadlines in a flexible environment.

Qualifications

  • Essential: NVQ 3 (or equivalent such as BTEC Civil Engineering) in a relevant subject or equivalent experience.
  • Able to engage with customers/clients/stakeholders, including attending meetings and liaising with Elected Members.
  • Knowledge or experience of Flood Risk Management, Civil Engineering and/or GIS mapping and data management.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills with the ability to provide concise written advice and negotiate outcomes.
  • Able to work to tight timescales and targets; driving licence and access to a vehicle required.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in delivering the Council’s statutory Lead Local Flood Authority role.
  • Support assessment of consent applications under the Land Drainage Act.
  • Respond to planning processes as statutory consultee and investigate flooding incidents.
  • Carry out site visits/meetings with residents, contractors, developers, landowners as required.
  • Provide data management support for flood risk management and team activities.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Technician within the Infrastructure Planning Team in the Environment and Transport Department.

We are looking for someone to provide support to the flood risk management function, helping to support the delivery of the role of the Lead Local Flood Authority, the delivery of the Council’s Flood Risk Management Capital programme and the delivery of the actions in Leicestershire’s Local Flood Risk Management Strategy.

About The Role

This role will involve working alongside colleagues in the Flood Risk Management team, assisting in delivering the Council’s statutory role as Lead Local Flood Authority.

The role will likely involve assisting with the assessment of applications for consent under the Land Drainage Act, assisting in responding as statutory consultee to the planning process, investigating flooding incidents and carrying out site visits and site meetings with residents, contractors, developers, land owners where required.

In this role you will also provide key support for data management for flood risk management for the team.

You will enjoy working in a fast-paced environment and have experience of managing your own workload and working to deadlines.

You will have excellent communication and negotiation skills, and the ability to build relationships with stakeholders. In return you will receive a varied workload, the support of colleagues, and have an opportunity to shape the direction of growth in Leicestershire.

About You

To apply for this post, you must:

  • NVQ 3 (or equivalent qualification such as BTEC Civil Engineering) in a relevant subject or experience that meets the essential requirement.
  • Be able to successfully engage with customers / clients / stakeholders, including attending and producing materials for meetings, exhibitions etc. and liaising with Elected Members.
  • Have some knowledge and preferably experience of Flood Risk Management, Civil Engineering and water environmental management and/or GIS mapping and data management.
  • Have excellent communication and presentation skills, including being able to provide relevant, concise written advice and negotiate successful outcomes.
  • Be able to work to tight timescales and to agreed targets.
  • Hold a full, valid driving licence and access to a vehicle. Ability to travel across the County as required.
