Job summary

Alstom in the United Kingdom is seeking a TCMS Engineer to design and develop train control and monitoring systems for rail vehicles. You will lead complex projects and collaborate with mechanical, electrical and software teams to deliver robust, scalable solutions.

The role combines technical leadership with mentoring and knowledge sharing, focusing on safety-critical systems, system integration and reliable performance across diverse rail platforms, based at our Derby office.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
  • Experience in rail systems engineering or embedded systems with project management.
  • Proficiency in TCMS design, embedded software development, CAN and Ethernet.
  • Strong understanding of safety-critical systems and lifecycle management.
  • Excellent leadership, communication and stakeholder engagement.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and implementation of scalable TCMS architectures for rail vehicles.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, electrical and software engineers to integrate TCMS.
  • Develop and validate reliable control algorithms to reduce failures.
  • Introduce new technologies to enhance system functionality and efficiency.
  • Mentor teammates, document processes, and drive continuous improvement.

  • Lead the design and implementation of scalable TCMS architectures for new and existing rail vehicles, ensuring future-proof solutions.

  • Drive reliability by developing and validating robust control algorithms, minimising system failures and optimising performance.
  • Champion innovation by introducing new technologies and methodologies to enhance system functionality and efficiency.
  • Promote knowledge sharing through mentoring, documentation, and training sessions to build team expertise and foster continuous improvement.

What You Bring
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
  • Experience in rail systems engineering or embedded systems, with proven project management skills.
  • Proficiency in TCMS design, embedded software development, communication protocols (CAN, Ethernet), and system integration.
  • Strong understanding of safety-critical systems, rail industry standards, and lifecycle management.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills, with a focus on team development and stakeholder engagement.
