Job summary

Leonardo UK in Basildon is seeking a Chief Systems Engineer within the Precision Guidance area to provide senior technical leadership, govern systems engineering, and drive coherent architectures. You will influence lifecycle activities, coach teams, and ensure robust engineering practices across complex programmes.

This senior role requires a systems thinker with MBSE experience, strong stakeholder engagement, and a proven ability to lead in dynamic environments.

Qualifications

• Experience applying Systems Engineering governance and LCM process.
• Track record delivering high-quality engineering artefacts within IPTs.
• Experience eliciting stakeholder expectations.
• Experience creating and defining architectures.
• Experience collaborating with internal/external stakeholders.
• Proven leadership and decision-making at a senior level.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; strong influencer.
• Motivation and tenacity to deliver beneficial outcomes.
• Experience with Model Based Systems Engineering tools/methodologies.
• Experience on largescale Systems Integration programmes; cost/schedule/quality implications.
• Domain experience in RF, EW, Electro-Optics, Platform Integration, Sensor Fusion, AI/ML.
• Proficient with tools: Cameo, Matlab, Simulink, DOORS (classic).

Responsibilities

• Influence development and quality of engineering artefacts across the FC/ASW programme.
• Act as focal point for systems engineering governance and Lifecycle Management.
• Coach engineers to understand problem space, stakeholder needs, and constraints.
• Ensure concept development, modelling, simulation, and architectural techniques inform options.
• Influence whole life design considerations like Safety, Security, Manufacture, Test, Supportability.
• Capture trends and lessons learned to improve future work.
• Collaborate with peers to promote continual learning and act as a change agent.
• Identify recurring challenges and turn them into actionable improvements.
