Leonardo UK is seeking a Project Chief Engineer (Systems Design Authority) to lead the technical direction of electro-optic and precision guidance products within the Sensors sector in Basildon.

You will provide technical leadership across the full engineering lifecycle, govern design integrity, and ensure safety and security compliance while delivering value to customers in a high-stakes defence environment. Hybrid onsite work and a strong governance framework support your activities.

Qualifications

• Strong background in development of complex products.
• Experience with requirements, test qualification, and acceptance strategies.
• Experience in design standard and configuration management.
• Experience in gaining design certification and customer acceptance.
• Ability to produce innovative technical and system solutions within budget and timescales.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with SMEs and End Users.

Responsibilities

• Own the technical solution for all phases of product development with external and internal stakeholders.
• Keep up to date on related processes and requirements within the product integrity team.
• Ensure products meet performance, legislative and contractual requirements with traceable evidence.
• Lead design reviews and ensure lifecycle management compliance.
• Provide direction, assessment and recommendations on risks and opportunities.
• Lead and mentor the technical team for cost-effective design and delivery.
• Define strategic capability improvements and development roadmaps.
