Job summary

Sword Group is a leading technology solutions provider; we are seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to join our Managed Services team. You will support and improve customer systems across on-premise and datacentre environments, focusing on stability, security and measurable outcomes.

In this role you’ll manage Windows/Linux servers, Active Directory, storage, backup and virtualization, implementing automation and monitoring to prevent outages.

Qualifications

• Five years' experience supporting systems infrastructure in an enterprise, managed services or outsourced IT environment.
• Certifications in systems engineering, virtualization, storage, backup, identity, security or automation; ITIL Foundation or equivalent service-management qualification.
• Strong operational knowledge of Windows Server, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy and core datacentre services.
• Experience with on-premises and datacentre services, server platforms, virtualization, storage, backup and identity.
• Experience with Windows and/or Linux server environments; patching, hardening and lifecycle management.
• Experience operating enterprise virtualization, storage, backup and recovery platforms.
• Strong diagnostic capability across compute, storage, networking, backup, identity and application dependency layers.
• Experience creating automation using PowerShell, Bash or Python.
• Ability to act as a senior escalation point, produce clear operational documentation, and guide customers and engineering teams.

Responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day operational support and maintenance for customer systems across on-premise and datacentre environments.
• Monitor service health and use alerts, logs and metrics to identify degradation early.
• Investigate and resolve incidents across Windows Server, DNS, DHCP, AD, virtualization, storage and related services.
• Manage incidents, service requests, changes and tasks against commitments and priorities.
• Support root-cause analysis and problem management with a focus on permanent fixes.
• Carry out patching, configuration changes and vulnerability remediation.
• Assist upgrades, migrations, hardware refreshes and transitions of environments into managed service.
