Job summary

Alexander Associates is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer to deliver high-quality structural designs across commercial, industrial, logistics, residential and data-driven projects. You will own design packages and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to drive technical excellence.

The role requires proficiency with AutoCAD, Civil 3D and drainage modelling tools, a solid grasp of UK Eurocodes and Building Regulations, and the ability to lead design reviews and mentor junior engineers.

Qualifications

• Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering or related field.
• Chartered status or working towards Chartered status (CEng MIStructE or CEng MICE).
• Proficiency with structural design software such as AutoCAD and Civil 3D; drainage modelling tools.
• Solid understanding of UK design standards, Eurocodes and Building Regulations.

Responsibilities

• Produce detailed structural designs, calculations and specifications across steel, concrete, masonry and timber.
• Develop structural solutions from concept through detailed design and construction.
• Coordinate with architects, civil engineers and contractors for seamless delivery.
• Review drawings and models for accuracy, buildability and compliance with standards.
• Attend design reviews and provide technical input throughout the lifecycle.
• Support site inspections and resolve technical queries during construction.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to design process improvements.

• Review drawings and models for accuracy, buildability and compliance with standards.
• Attend design reviews and provide clear technical input throughout the project lifecycle.

• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to continuous improvement of design processes.

Requirements

• Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering/related.
• Strong consultancy experience delivering structural design projects.
• Proficiency in structural design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and drainage modelling tools).
• Solid understanding of UK design standards, Eurocodes and Building Regulations.
• Excellent communication, problem‑solving and engineering judgement.
• Experience across commercial, industrial, logistics or data‑centre sectors.
• Chartered or working towards Chartered status (CEng MIStructE or CEng MICE).
• Understanding of the use of design tools within a BIM environment
• Experience in Flood Risk Assessment and Drainage Strategy Reports
• Industrial and Commercial building sector experience, along with other construction industry design experience.
